Alphas+Vision
Alphas apparently have some additional vision abilities over betas.other were-canines. Derek is able to see the ink of [[Scott McCall|Scott]]'s healed [[Scott's tattoo|tattoo]] when he makes his eyes glow, suggesting x-ray vision or infrared vision, assuming the tattoo would somehow change the heat signature in Scott's body.body in [[3x01 - Tattoo|Tattoo]].
 
Derek further implies that he can see infrared when [[Chris Argent|Chris]] helps them track [[Vernon Boyd|Boyd]] and [[Cora Hale|Cora]] in [[3x03 - Fireflies]][[3x03 - Fireflies|Fireflies]]. Chris tosses [[Isaac Lahey|Isaac]], Scott and Derek infrared goggles, and Derek replies, "Thanks, got my own," and flashes his eyes.
