Series

Scott McCall lives in Beacon Hills, California with his mother Melissa McCall, is best friends with Stiles Stilinski, attends Beacon Hills High School and has a part-time job as a veterinarian assistant to Alan Deaton. Scott becomes a new werewolf, after being bitten by an alpha, Peter Hale. In Season 1 and Season 2, Scott struggles to control his transformations, adapt to his new life, and balance his high school relationships with the help of Stiles and fellow werewolf Derek Hale. He falls in love with Allison Argent, a member of a werewolf hunter family which becomes a source of drama and turmoil in his life and works to protect his friends and family from a slew of human and supernatural enemies. In Season 3, Scott undergoes a druid sacrifice, along with Stiles and Allison, to take Melissa's place as a guardian to save her from the Darach, which reawakens the Nemeton. He rises to alpha rank by becoming a True Alpha, forms his pack and takes up the role of protecting the town and the people of Beacon Hills. Although he is the face of the pack, the planning and leadership aspects that lead to success tend to fall to other members of the pack and their allies or become a group effort. Scott starts a new romance with Kira Yukimura and determinedly exorcises Stiles of a nogitsune, but is struck with grief by Allison's death. In Season 4, Scott moves on with his life and his relationship with Kira. He accidentally bites Liam Dunbar while saving his life, creating his first beta werewolf. He takes Liam under his wing, teaching him how to be a werewolf. Scott goes along with his pack to stop the Deadpool and save his friends from death, whilst contemplating whether or not he should resort to being a killer, firmly deciding the latter in the end. In Season 5, Scott leads his pack in the battle against the Dread Doctors, but is repeatedly beaten down, and his rash judgment costs him the faith and trust of his pack. Because of Theo Raeken's manipulation, the pack drifts away from him causing his power to weaken and he casts Stiles out of the Pack. He is then killed by Theo, but is resurrected by Melissa's efforts and the supermoon. Scott recovers from his loss and pulls his fractured pack back together, fully getting back his power and confidence, and vanquishes the resurrected Beast of Gévaudan. In Season 6, Scott prepares for graduation and questions if Beacon Hills still needs them. However, the pack soon notice that the Wild Hunt is taking people, including Stiles, and erasing them from everyone's memories. Scott begins to turn over his leadership responsibilities to Liam for when the older members of the pack leave for college as they work on bringing Stiles and the others back.

Personality

size: medium; margin-left: 10px; float: rightScott is naturally good-natured and kind-hearted. He is affable, loyal and optimistic. He has a tendency to be socially awkward and quirky, being considered a high school dork. Despite his asthma and being a benchwarmer for the school's lacrosse team, Scott persistently wishes to climb out of his high-school anonymity and find his place.

"I can't sit out again. My whole life is sitting on the sidelines. This season, I make first line." - Scott

Typical of a teenage boy, Scott can be naive and stubborn. He tends to overlook highly probable risks and take his chances. This is shown after he becomes a new werewolf. When he finally improves athletically and makes first line on the lacrosse team, he remains on the team in spite of the danger of being a new werewolf. Later, when he becomes enamored with, then falls for Allison Argent, and she with him, he stubbornly ignores the complications of her parents being erstwhile hunters of werecreatures.

"I wanna play! I want to be on the team. I want to go out with Allison. I want a semi-freaking normal life." - Scott

size: medium; margin-left: 10px; float: rightThough initially distressed and overwhelmed regarding the complications and dangers being part of the supernatural presents, Scott eventually comes to terms with and accepts his new identity. He also eventually shows maturity in realizing the necessity to take a stand about his situation and the responsibility to keep the people close to him safe, including his best friend Stiles, his mother Melissa McCall, and Allison. He also does his best to retain his humanity when confronted with the possibility he could become a killer if his werewolf aggression takes over.

Stiles: "Scott ... you have something ... Whether you want it or not, you can do things that nobody else can do. So that means you don't have a choice anymore. It means you have to do something."

Scott: "I know. And I will."

Scott has an amicable and trusting nature, generally always willing to give most people the benefit of the doubt and see the best in them, but not always. He tends to stick to his first impression of people and it can take a long while for him to recognize that his judgment could be wrong. This is evident with how he sticks to his idea of Derek being an untrustworthy person in seasons 1 and 2 and takes a while for him to realize that Derek genuinely cares and wants to help save people. Similarly, he stuck with his initial impression of Theo Raeken from when they were little, unimpressed about his best friend Stiles' gut feeling that something was off about him, eventually leading to Scott trusting Theo over Stiles. Scott realizes this error in judgment when Theo shows his true colors and attempts to kill him and he earns to make up for his mistake afterwards

Scott does his best to be the protector his friends and family believe him to be, but his black and white view of morality is in conflict with the morally gray world he lives in and sometimes results in more harm than good. For example, in being so focused on saving Jackson Whittemore when he was turned into a kanima, not killing him had the consequence of allowing the kanima to claim many more lives while they tried to find a better solution.

"Everyone can be tempted, Scott. Even a True Alpha." - Derek to Scott

Scott was willing to kill Peter Hale hoping to cure himself of being a werewolf in season 1, though in later seasons, he strictly advocates for saving people instead, believing killing someone should not be the first option. In a more hypocritical stance, he complained about people not trusting each other to Derek, in that instance about Derek's reasonable position of not trusting the Argents, and proceeded to betray Derek and his pack instead of informing them of his and Deaton's plan to put Gerard away, though he and Derek eventually learned to trust each other before the end of Season 3A. Scott's flawed habit of keeping important information from people who deserve to know also extends to not telling Allison the truth surrounding how her mother died and not informing Kira that something odd was going on with her fox even when Kira asked him about it. He usually does not keep secrets out of malice, but because he views it as his responsibility to shoulder the burden for other people even though they deserve to know the truth. The phrase "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" certainly applies to a lot of his faults, but he has worked to overcome some of them as they are pointed out to him.

Supernatural Abilities

Scott has all the supernatural abilities and traits of a werewolf, including superhuman strength, speed, agility, endurance, senses, an advanced healing factor, pain absorption, and the ability to shift into the normal werewolf form. Scott rose to the status of True Alpha through strength of will while breaking through a mountain ash barrier, gaining the ability to give the bite, use an alpha roar, and to have his existing abilities enhanced through the symbiotic power from his pack. He also develops the ability to use the werewolf mind meld technique with Peter's initial assistance in 3x22 - De-Void and has shown signs of being able to shapeshift into a more monstrous form. This occurred in 4x10 - Monstrous when he lost control and savaged an assassin in the heat of battle, though the transformation regressed when he regained control. Scott's status as a True Alpha can only be fully taken by a beta turned from his own bite.

Deaton: "Personally, I'm more interested in how these talons somehow were able to absorb your power. The only one who should be able to do that is a beta of your own making."
Scott: "Someone like Liam."
Deaton: "Exactly."
Scott: "And what if I let someone into my pack? Like another beta?"
Deaton: "I would normally say no... but I'm starting to wonder if the rules aren't as rigid as I once thought."

- 5x02 - Parasomnia

Scott's abilities occasionally do not work consistently and can be severely depleted beyond what has been seen with most other werewolves. Some reasons for this may be the support and presence of his pack or lack of it, his mental state, his age and experience or potentially other factors. Incidents include (but are not limited to):

 • Doing poorly while fighting Kincaid, a beta, who remarks "You have the eyes of an alpha, but where's the strength?" in 3x20 - Echo House. The twins then jump in and have a much easier time fighting him than Scott did.
 • Being beaten around by a berserker in 4x02 - 117 when a de-aged Derek was able to take on two
 • Being beaten around and then drained of energy by Belasko in 5x01 - Creatures of the Night before experiencing a surge of power to defeat him after Stiles, Liam, and Malia show up
 • Losing nearly all of his abilities - including strength, healing, and the ability to shift - when he lost the support of his pack in season 5 and regaining his abilities as he regains his pack. This is in contrast to both Peter's strength as an alpha in season 1 even though both Scott and Derek opposed him and Derek's relatively small loss in power from losing pack members throughout season 3A.
