Scott saved up all summer to buy himself a dirt bike to replace his pedal bike.
This is another indicator of Scott's relatively low economic status compared to his peers. Everyone else has a car, most of which they did not pay for themselves. Scott has a dirt bike, only because he was able to buy it himself.
